WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Arts and Culture Commission will present its 9th Annual Arts Advocacy Award to Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce President Peter S. Levi during the association’s 73rd Annual Conference and Exposition in Jackson County July 11-15 at the Kansas City Convention Center.
The award is presented each year to a local arts advocate in the host community for NACo’s Annual Conference. Levi will be honored during at the Arts Advocacy Award Dinner on Sunday, July 13.
Levy is being honored for his work in helping to launch a successful united arts fund in the Kansas City metropolitan area in cooperation with the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City and the business community.
“On behalf of the nation’s counties, congratulations to Mr. Levi for his leadership and deep commitment to the arts in the Greater Kansas City area,” said NACo President Eric Coleman, commissioner, Oakland County, Mich. “Because of his leadership, the arts fund will benefit local arts programs and the community at large for years to come.”
Since its inception, the fund has generated more than $1 million in grants for the local arts community.
Levi, who is active in numerous community and professional organizations in the Greater Kansas City area, has served as chamber president since 1990. Prior to that, he was executive director for the Mid-America Regional Council. He holds a Master of Law degree in Urban Legal Affairs, University of Missouri-Kansas City; a Juris Doctor degree, University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Bachelor of Arts degree, Northwestern University.
